TRIBUTE | THE FIRST 3D BOOK COVERS DESIGN

In a time when book publishing on paper is being questionated, definitely is necesary to reinvent and find new ways with new formats, materials and shapes. The design provides a key role in that mission, and they have understood in Riverhead Books, who have designed a 3D printed case for a limited edition of the novel On Such a Full Sea, writed by Chang-rae Lee.

The cover is printed on a MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D printer. A process that certainly opens up new possibilities in the print edition and makes the book such a object of desire.

The second dimension and typography have always been faithful companions, but this time they went a step further. We can see in this project how the letters are taking shape and are playing with readability from various viewpoints.
