SPACE & IDENTITY | INTERIOR DESIGN AND BRANDING EXERCISE FOR THE IDEALISTS EDITORIAL PROJECT: PIMP MY RETAIL - TRANSLATING AMERICAN APPAREL FOR THE EUROPEAN SHOPPER
THE IDEALISTS startup WERE reaching out to be assisted with a feature that they call "Pimp My Retail", where a retail design team (they choose VXLAB) takes a look at an existing retail concept and let their readers know how it could be improved.
They asked us to provide a bit of feedback - quick and easy ideas of how a retail design concept could be made better - along with a few visual renderings of what it would look like after the makeover.
After the initial conversations, we decided to make this exercise on American Apparel Retail concept for Europe. An information research was the first step to write some basic reflexions on the problems that we think American Apparel shops have in their Europe shop design strategy.
Then, we designed some improvements, some appearance changes that may improve their business results just upgrading their brand value. Those new design were focused on three points:
1. The shop facades, where we used a OSB wood pattern in natural and coloured tint to do a cool, resistant and good looking facade.
2. The shop interiors, with some new customized furniture to improve product visibility and help the current chaos.
3. The shop windows, a hipster and frek minded madness as a sasonal window display, some cheap dummies are not enough
